Day 2 of a Rome trip in Celi: a map with numbered stops, the Colosseum and Forum, and four celiac-safe places to eat

How a trip comes together

A real 3-day Rome trip, planned by Celi for a family of four whose daughter has celiac.

  1. Rome, May 12 to 14, with my wife and our two kids. Our daughter has celiac. We love ancient history.

    Tell Celi where you’re going

Write it the way you’d tell a friend: where, when, who’s coming and what you like. Celi asks about anything it still needs, like dates or who eats gluten-free.

  2. Celiac-safe places in Rome: 15 places, 14 fully gluten-free, starting with Mama Eat Trastevere, AIC-accredited with a separate pizza oven

    Celi researches safe places there

It reads celiac associations, guides and reviews, and keeps the places that are safe: fully gluten-free kitchens first, then places with real gluten-free practices.

    • 15 places in Rome
    • 14 fully gluten-free
    • Sources for each one
  3. Day 2 stops: lunch at Mama Eat Trastevere, 100% gluten-free and AIC-accredited, then gelato at Fatamorgana, each with why it was chosen and a Book a table button

Every day planned around safe meals

Sights in a sensible order, with a safe breakfast, lunch, dinner and gelato near them, and a reason for every stop. Day 2 starts at a gluten-free bakery, then the Colosseum and the Forum, then lunch at a 100% gluten-free trattoria in Trastevere.

Tap Book a table and Celi writes the request in Italian, with the celiac questions, and reads the reply back to you. It also flags what to book ahead, like timed tickets for the Colosseum.

  4. Packing list for Rome, 27 items, including a celiac doctor's letter in English and Italian and gluten-free meals for the flight

A packing list made for this trip

Written for where you’re going and who’s coming, with the celiac things people forget: a doctor’s letter in English and Italian, gluten-free food for the flight, snacks for delays. Add or remove anything.

  5. A change request: skip the Baths of Caracalla, the kids will be tired. Celi updated the plan with Bocca della Verità and Circus Maximus

When plans change, Celi changes the plan

“Skip the Baths of Caracalla, the kids will be tired. Something easier instead.”

Celi swapped in two short, easy stops nearby, the Mouth of Truth and Circus Maximus, and kept the safe meals around them. Family can follow the plan from a shared link and ask Celi for changes themselves.

Something to eat tonight

Not every meal is planned. When you’re hungry now, at home or on the road, ask Celi.

Ask the way you’d text a friend

Say where, when and who’s coming. Celi asks only what it still needs, then suggests places from its list of gluten-free restaurants and bakeries, closest first, with why each one is safe and whether it’s open.

Explore shows the same places on a map, with 100% gluten-free kitchens marked and notes from other celiacs.

At the table, in any language

The hardest moment is explaining celiac to a kitchen in another language. Celi helps with that too.

Senza glutine

Ho la celiachia.

Posso mangiare solo cibi senza glutine. Anche poche briciole di frumento, orzo, segale o farro mi fanno stare male.

A dining card in 10 languages

Show it to your server. Each card explains celiac to the kitchen: no gluten at all, no shared pasta water, no oil used for breaded food. It works without internet and reads itself aloud.

Celi translates 'we cook it in the same water, I think' and warns: Not safe for celiac. Ask them: can you cook my pasta in fresh water, in a clean pot?

Understand what the server says

Speak or type what you heard. Celi translates it and tells you plainly when it isn’t safe.

“Sì, la pasta è senza glutine, ma la cuciniamo nella stessa acqua, credo.”

The pasta is gluten-free but cooked in shared water, so Celi marks it not safe and gives you the question to ask back, ready to say out loud.

Made by a dad and his daughter who has celiac disease.

When we travel, the planning starts weeks before the trip: a spreadsheet of every gluten-free restaurant and bakery near where we’ll be, which ones are fully gluten-free, which cook pasta in fresh water, and what to say when we get there. When a plan changes on the day, the research starts again.

We built Celi together to do that research with us, so trips feel less stressful and more like trips. We hope it helps other celiac families too.

Always check before you order

Celi finds its information on the web and from other celiacs, and it can be wrong or out of date. Tell the staff you have celiac every time. Celi is not medical advice.
